Clay's Quest by Christi Williams

Clay's Quest

Christi Williams
Humour, Western, Contemporary Romance, Sensual Romance

She’ll do anything to get her way.

Tall, elegant and beautiful, Emma Thorpe has wanted a baby for years. The yearning for a child occupies all her thought, her time, her effort, and any money she and her husband can scrape up for medical intervention. After trying and failing to conceive, the solution that finally comes to her is to leave her husband and hope to find a man—any man—capable of fulfilling her deepest desire.

Big, handsome Clay Thorpe isn’t the kind of man to let his wife just wander away. It takes a few months of Emma’s absence from his bed to devise a plan, but he’s determined. Eventually, Clay lures Emma home with a convoluted strategy only he could concoct, involving an antique diamond ring, sex three times a day, and...a turkey baster?

Caution: This is a work of fiction. Please don’t attempt duplicating Clay’s methods!

Christi Williams: I write about Wyoming. My enduring love is for the West, the Western mythos and its icons. My sweet Hawk Point romances are spiced with erotic love scenes that center on the mythical cowboy/lawman hero and the strong woman who loves him.

My Review
Contains spoilers.

In this book Emma has left her husband because she wants a baby and he can't give it to her. The blurb actually tells most of the story already (it's all about her wanting a baby and trying to get pregnant). I thought the book would be about Clay trying to win her back, but actually he got her back right in the very beginning of the book. The rest of it is just about trying to have a baby and is kind of weirdly technical.

Emma is a character that annoyed me a bit, because she is paranoid, seems to hate both Clay and herself, and she is a pretty weak sort of person who changes her mind too easily. But I really enjoyed the author's descriptions of Clay. It made me wish I knew him myself! He sounds like an incredibly beautiful hunk of a man and there was just the right amount of sexy description. The bedroom scenes are really hot.

This is not a long book, but it has a mostly enjoyable storyline. It was hard to lose myself in the story completely because trying to get pregnant kind of overtook the whole story. It felt like back story was missing and it needed something else besides a big rush of baby-baby-baby. I think if the book had been longer I would have had time to get to like Emma. And it would have had room for other things and been a better read. There was no time to get to care about the characters. But if you are just after a short and sexy light read and you dream of getting pregnant then you will enjoy this book.

I was given the book in exchange for an honest review.
